    Tuition waiver scholarships

Tuition waiver scholarships to attend Basel Winter Arbitration School

Arbitration Lab cooperates with other institutions and initiatives to offer a limited number of tuition waiver scholarships to enable participants to attend the Basel Winter Arbitration School. Please note that the Arbitration Lab team is not administering these scholarships and will not be in a position to answer questions about them.

Tuition-waiver scholarships for nationals of non-OECD countries

If you are a national of a non-OECD country (see the list of OECD countries here), you can apply for a tuition waiver scholarship from the R.E.A.L. – Racial Equality for Arbitration Lawyers initiative. Please follow these steps: 1) Confirm you are a member of R.E.A.L. or sign up for a free membership here; 2) prepare a 150-word letter of motivation for this opportunity and 3) send your application to scholarships@letsgetrealarbitration.org by 15 September 2024. You will be notified by the R.E.A.L. team about the outcome by 20 September 2023. In total, two scholarships will be awarded – one for online and one for in-person participation.

Tuition-waiver scholarships for nationals of Ukraine

Ukrainian Arbitration Association will select two candidates to attend the Basel Winter Arbitration School. Please prepare a 150-word letter of motivation for this opportunity indicating whether you wish to attend the school in person or online, and sent it to info@uaa.in.ua with ‘Basel Winter Arbitration School’ in the subject line. Please submit your application by 5 September 2024. You will be notified by the UAA team about the outcome by 12 September 2023. In total, two scholarships for Ukrainian nationals will be awarded – one for online and one for in-person participation.

    Other opportunities

In the past, some participants received financial support from their employers (law firms, governments, etc.) or universities as well as from other sources. Please note that if you apply without having secured funding, your application will be rejected and you will be advised to apply again.

Please note that the number of scholarships is small, they are very competitive and the Arbitration Lab is not in a position to influence the decision-making process of our partners or other funders.

When deciding whether to attend the school in person or online, please note that Basel is expensive. Those who cannot afford to attend the winter school in person often switch to the online format, which follows exactly the same programme of study but without extra social activities.

Please submit your application to attend the school after you have secured funding for your participation.
