This 18-hour guided course introduces participants to the theory and practice of international investment law and investor–state dispute settlement. It explores the historical background and rationale for protecting foreign direct investment, the applicable legal framework, and the key substantive and procedural principles governing the field. Participants will gain an understanding of dispute resolution mechanisms and the professional critiques of the current system. No prior knowledge of international law is required, though it may be helpful. Through interactive lectures, infographics, and discussions with leading London-based practitioners and arbitrators, the course provides both a conceptual foundation and practical insights.
