Arbitration Lab invites submissions for the 2026 edition of the conference on CIS-related disputes, bringing together leading practitioners, arbitrators, in-house counsel, experts, and policymakers to discuss recent developments affecting dispute resolution across the region. The conference will take place on 5-6 October 2026 in the online format.
Following a successful previous edition of this conference, it will focus on key legal, procedural, and strategic issues arising in disputes involving CIS jurisdictions and other former Soviet Union states (e.g., Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan) particularly in the context of geopolitical tensions, sanctions, and evolving enforcement practices.
We welcome abstracts addressing recent developments in the following areas:
1. Commercial Arbitration: Recent Developments
- Institutional and ad hoc arbitration involving CIS parties
- Arbitrability, jurisdiction, and procedural innovations
- Sector-specific disputes (energy, commodities, finance)
2. Investor-State Arbitration: Recent Developments
- Trends in ISDS involving CIS states
- Treaty interpretation, termination, and succession
- Damages, jurisdictional objections, and reform developments
3. Enforcement of Foreign Judgments and Arbitral Awards
- Recognition and enforcement trends in CIS jurisdictions and abroad
- Public policy, sanctions, and reciprocity
- Sovereign immunity and enforcement against state assets
4. Parallel Proceedings and Injunctions
- Anti-suit and anti-arbitration injunctions
- Coordination between courts and arbitral tribunals
- Lis pendens, forum conflicts, and strategic litigation
5. Sanctions and Compliance: Recent Developments
- Impact of sanctions on dispute resolution and enforcement
- Compliance challenges for parties, counsel, and arbitrators
- Countermeasures, essential security clauses, and public policy
